Publishing house founded in 1938 by a group of Argentinian business people and intellectuals. It 1939, Spanish publishers Antonio López Llausás and Julián Urgoiti took over the company and started its development. Many exiles worked for Sudamericana and had their books published there. Those were the cases of Jorge Guillén, José Ferrater Mora, Segundo Serrano Poncela, Pedro Salinas, Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, Fernando de los Ríos, Salvador de Madariaga, Claudio Sánchez-Albornoz, Francisco Ayala and Rafael Dieste.
