A writer, waiting for his imaginary friend to arrive, tells him about his literary success. But he ends up admitting that none of it is real; in fact he is a failure who lives in poverty. He describes the creative act as beautiful and sublime, but also as the worst of torments. He decides he will stop writing: "Es la última frase. Es la última letra". The friend has still not arrived, giving the writer time to keep working. He sits down at his desk and, with renewed enthusiasm, begins to write.
