Two factory workers, Siete and Nueve, have been so dehumanised that they are identified only by their numbers. Nueve has become cynical and sceptical, whilst Siete, who is younger, still retains some hope. A third character, a child, wants to be a worker like his father because he likes the overalls and the factory, which is clean and modern. A pantomime scene depicts the workers trapped in a giant spider's web at their machines. Nueve allows himself to be killed by one of the machines. Siete does not want to die like Nueve and considers leaving his job, but he is caught up in the factory, the system, and the need for money. Siete's life will become like Nueve's, and the child will also follow suit.
